In recent times, practicing has become very popular.  What was once considered to be a ritual for the effeminate, tree-hugging environmentalists has been seamlessly integrated into mainstream pop culture.  The success of yoga came primarily due to its widespread use among Hollywood celebrities.  What’s more is that there are inherent health benefits associated with yoga that are backed by thousands of years of observations, stemming from the discipline of ancient eastern traditions. 

The benefits of yoga are quite numerous and far-reaching.  For the longest time, personal testimony was the only source of evidence.  People talked about how much better they feel after having practiced yoga for a while, more relaxed, more complacent, and less stressed.  More recently, though, scientific researchers have confirmed these findings through long, in-depth, and intensive studies.

Once you go through the research you find that health benefits can be divided into three categories: physiological, psychological, and biochemical.  The findings are quite interesting.

Physiological Benefits

The physiological benefits of yoga pervade all areas of both health and fitness.  The list is exhaustive, so only a few will be presented in this article.  First and foremost, cardiovascular efficiency increases.  As a result, overall weight normalizes, balance improves, sleep quality improves and blood pressure stabilizes. 

Psychological Benefits

Probably the most important of the benefits is the fact that anxiety and depression decrease, which is a growing problem in the United States, not only among adults but also among young people.  Not to mention the fact that attention and focus both improve.

Biochemical Benefits

These benefits deal with the chemical processes that go on in the body to ensure your overall health.  Triglycerides levels go down which helps decrease the overall levels of fat.  Sodium levels decrease, while vitamin C increases.
